Elected Officials
City of San Fernando
The City Council serves as the legislative body for the City of San Fernando. Comprised of five members, the Council monitors the operation and performance of the city, enacts regulations and policies, and has sole responsibility for approving the City’s budget. The Council appoints the City Manager and City Attorney, and appoints members of the community to City advisory boards and commissions.
Members of the City Council are elected and serve four year terms. The Mayor is the presiding officer at Council meetings and is elected directly each year by the City Council from among its members. The Vice Mayor is also elected directly each year by the City Council and serves as presiding officer in the Mayor’s absence. Both the Mayor and Vice Mayor have the same voting power as any other councilmember.
